Huawei Marine Successfully Host 3rd Asia Pacific Submarine Networks Forum in Hangzhou

[Hangzhou, China, October 17, 2017] Huawei Marine successfully hosted the 3rd Asia Pacific Submarine Networks Forum in Hangzhou. With the vision of “Developing ICT Hubs: Make Submarine Cables a Strategic Asset”, the forum discussed how submarine cables are a key facilitator of Asia-Pacific ICT development. The forum was attended by over 200 delegates from China and ASEAN government regulators, submarine telecom operators, the investment community and solutions providers, as well as industry analysts. 

“Till now, we have contracted to build about 40,000 km submarine cable worldwide, which could be circled around the earth equator. We would thank to the effort and support of all the stakeholders. We will continue to interact with industry partners actively to meet industry needs and challenges.” said, Mao Shengjiang, COO of Huawei Marine in his welcome speech.

Shi Yulong, Principal, Institute of Spatial Planning & Regional Economy, National Development and Reform Commission of China,said in his keynote that :”Infrastructure is the key bottleneck restricting the development of developing countries. Infrastructure interconnection is an important part of the construction of "One Belt One Road" construction, while modern ICT infrastructure lead the building of it.”

"Submarine cable has become an important infrastructure for the economy development, national defense consolidation and people's lives." Sun Juan, Deputy Director of Department of Sea Area Management, State Oceanic Administration of China, said: "The management and protection of the international submarine cable is not only the concern of the cable operators, but also the Chinese government. The government has establish a number of management systems to effectively protect the international submarine cable construction and application.”

Through a lineup of presentations and panel discussions, the forum stimulated a fruitful discussion of the challenges and opportunities facing the Asia Pacific region and how to seize the opportunities and facilitate digital economy in Asia Pacific.

The Asia Pacific Submarine Networks Forum is an annual forum hosted by Huawei and Huawei Marine. It serves as a platform, bringing together key stakeholders associated with the submarine industry in Asia Pacific and the globe to gather together to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the industry and had been successfully hosted in Beijing and Singapore in 2015 and 2016.
