Huawei Launches the First Ever Real Live Container Data Centre at Malaysia ICT Road Show

Huawei demonstrates its flagship products and solutions to tackle booming data demand in Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur, 2 April 2014 – Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, today commenced its three day ICT Road Show at the Sime Darby Convention Centre. At the opening event, the company launched its first ever real live container data centre, in a single 20ft or 40ft ISO(international Organization for Standardization) standard shipping container.

More than 300 engaging guests, including Muhammad Imran Kunalan Abdullah, General Manager of MDeC Talent Division, Cheah Kok Hoong, Chairman of PIKOM, and Mike Wang Hui, CEO of Huawei Malaysia, attended the opening day event and shared their opinions on the industry’s new technologies and solutions.

At the event, Huawei highlighted its Container Data Centre Solutions with features designed for high reliability/security, fast deployment, mobility, and energy/cost saving, as seen in Container Data Centre IDS1000-A. Adopting an integrated system, Huawei’s Container Data Centre IDS1000-A fully addresses issues faced by today’s fast-moving businesses, including managing rapid future expansion in contrast to installing traditional data centres that suffer from long construction periods, high energy consumption and high initial investment.

In addition to the container data centre, Huawei also showcased its flagship enterprise storage system, Huawei OceanStor 18000 series. This series consists of two models, OceanStor 18500 and OceanStor 18800, both providing trusted and flexible storage solution for critical appliances of enterprise data centres. Last December, Huawei OceanStor 18000 series was awarded the 2013 New Product Innovation Leadership Award by Frost & Sullivan – a testament to Huawei’s ongoing efforts in the innovation of enterprise storage technologies and products.

Leo Li, Country Director of Huawei Malaysia enterprise business said “Huawei has more than 10 years’ experience in data centre services. We have built more than 330 data centres and 70 cloud data centres worldwide, providing data centre service to global mainstream data centre integration venders and top carriers. Through our dedication to customer-centric innovation, Huawei will bring more innovative customer–centric products to help our enterprise customers increase their competitive edges.”

Muhammad Imran Kunalan Abdullah, General Manager of MDeC Talents Division said “The Digital Malaysia initiative overseen by MDeC has set clear targets for the contribution of the ICT sector as the enabler towards realising our aspiration to be a developed nation by 2020.  The contribution of the ICT sector will also lead the nation as a high income society.  A valued partner like Huawei who has wide range of ICT solutions ranging from telecommunication infra-structure to data centres which can contribute positively to the digital economy agenda of Malaysia.”

“PIKOM is pleased that Huawei has chosen Kuala Lumpur as their road show’s first stop. A choice reflects the growing strength of the Malaysian ICT industry. We look forward to strengthening the relationship between Huawei and PIKOM further improving the business environment for the local ICT industry,” said Cheah Kok Hoong, PIKOM Chairman.

Since it established the Southern Pacific Regional HQ in Kuala Lumpur, Huawei has been contributing to development of the ICT industry in Malaysia as a member of the Multimedia Super Corridor and a strategic partner with all major telecom operators. With its emphasis on knowledge transfer, Huawei provides ICT trainings for 20,000 engineers annually via Huawei Global Training Centre, in addition to the education programme developed in conjunction with MDeC to train 10,000 local talents between 2011 and 2016.
